Did you know that there is a law that obliges companies that place products on the market to be responsible for the waste that those products generate? This is the essence of the Law on Extended Producer Responsibility for the Management of Specific Waste Streams.
This law applies to all legal entities that place certain products on the market, the use of which creates a specific type of waste, in our case textile waste.
When it comes to textile waste, responsibility is clearly defined. It falls on:
– The first importer of textile raw materials who then produces a textile product and is the first to place it on the Macedonian market.
– The first importer of a finished textile product on the Macedonian market.
This means that companies involved in these processes pay a financial contribution for each product they sell.
Where do these funds go?
The funds collected from this extended producer responsibility are not just a tax. They are a key investment! This money is directly directed towards:
– Collection and recycling infrastructure: Systems for efficient waste collection and processing are built and maintained.
– Media campaigns: Public awareness is raised about the importance of proper waste management.
– Educational programs: Activities are implemented to educate the population and businesses about responsible behavior.
With this system, every product purchased contributes to a cleaner environment and a sustainable future. It is a step towards a circular economy where waste is seen as a resource, not a burden. Below you can see the results achieved for 2024, of which we are extremely proud.
